I keep thinking that I have nothing worthy to blog about and then Andrea informed me that my experience at Dillard's while working last night would be interesting. As you all may know I chose to work in the "MEN'S DEPARTMENT" Generally that would mean that I help alot of men or women who are looking for the guy in their life the perfect gift! What confused me last night was walking up to two women (one quite small and feminine looking the other baseball cap, tennis shoes, baggy clothes, etc) and saying"
Me: "Can I help You?"
Woman 1: "Yes, Do you have any white linen shirts that are short sleeved"
Me: "Yes we do" (I proceeded to go and show her a couple of different items. They had probably 15 different items in their hands)
Me: "Is there anything else I can help you with"
Woman 1: "Yes, She wants to try these on" (pointing to woman 2)
I am sure I had a confused look on my face! But having my wages based on sales I immediately took them to the dressing room. I explained that there was a chair strategically placed by the dressing rooms and that woman 1 could sit while the other tried clothes on. (the fitting rooms are not that big)Much to my surprise both women went into the dressing room. That made me turn my head to the side and go hmmm.
Well its important to stick with your customers or some other sales rep will nab them up in a second, again because your wages are based on your sales its quite competitive.
So i waited patiently and visited with a co-worker about 30 feet away from the dressing room while my customers were in the dressing room. About 20 minutes into the so called "trying clothes on episode" My coworker turned to me and said my word they have been in there a long time. I whole heartedly agreed. I went to the door and asked if I could get any different sizes or how things were working. I got a quiet "we are fine, thanks". SO i left them again and went and visited some more with another customer and my co-worker. She helped that customer and then went and started straightening some of the clothes on displays in the area so that I could help my two women customers when they came out of the dressing room. Lo and behold about 35 minutes after being shown into the dressing room my two women customers emerged empty handed. I asked them nicely if any of it worked for them and they said "NO" and left the store.
Now mind you I have been shopping alot in my life. I am the first to admit that I dont really put alot of time and effort into hanging the clothes up as neat and tidy as I should I am sure others are the same way. I found working there that often times customers dont even hang them up.
Well I emerge into the dressing room to find ALL the clothes as neat and tidy as they were when they were taken in. Several of the shirts had pins and other things holding it together on the displays. Some were folded shirts that had tissue paper and other things inside and once they are tried on there is no way to get them back to the way they were before they were tried on.
I may have a vivid imagination, but I ask myself what could two women do in a men's dressing room for 35 minutes and have it appear as all the clothes they took into the dressing room untouched? Your guess is as good as mine!!
